Press Release

Johannesburg, Gauteng, 17 July 2020 – For Immediate Release

Often times, we forget the messy road to achieving something

– whether it be an education, a career, a state of health or a state of mind,

nothing ever comes to us in a straight line of progress. The AFDA produced

experimental film ‘Exposure’ reminds us of this through a poignant and poetic

lens.

‘Exposure’ follows the story of a young adult named Lihle,

who after spending so much time in isolation from her loved ones, begins to

relapse into her Post Traumatic Stress Order and has to fight through the emotional distress when triggered into a panic attack by flashbacks of her trauma.

The subject matter and tone are heavy but offers quiet celebration

in the ability to try again tomorrow if we fail to work through our pain today.

The chances for relapses do not make you a failure, and in overcoming each one

you offer yourself a new chance to do better. After all, healing never did come

in straight line.

Inspired by current affairs of needing to stay away from others in the name of protection; and the sudden hiccup to the academic journey for third year AFDA students, directors Warwck Eccles and Kgosi Maleka took this setback as an opportunity to embrace their challenges and find the strength to overcome them.

The experimental drama features live performance students Liyabona Totyi, Nolwazi Khumalo and Nhlanhla Shabangu who are set to make their debut into this industry with this touching piece.

The film will be showcased at the annual AFDA experimental festival, which will be hosted online for the first time as an opportunity to embrace the challenge.
